Changes to Your Library Holds

On January 12, 2009, the Milwaukee County Federated Library System (MCFLS) Board of Directors voted to reduce the maximum number of holds that library cardholders may have at any one time to 15. This decision is inconsistent with the Cudahy Family Library's long-standing practice of allowing Cudahy residents the ability to have up to 40 items on hold at a time.

The change to 15 holds from 40 holds on the CountyCat is effective on Monday, February 16, 2009. This reduction in service is being made by the MCFLS Board to obtain access to some of the Milwaukee Public Library's media collections, which were not holdable throughout 2008. If the hold limit is above 15, MPL will not reinstate holds on their media collections.

In continuation of our past practice, the Staff of the Cudahy Family Library will gladly override the maximum hold limitation for our residents. Cudahy residents who wish to have more than 15 items on hold at a time are asked to submit a Hold Request Slip for each item that they would like to place on hold. Staff will then place the holds on your behalf, overriding the MCFLS limit.

Persons who wish to contact MCFLS to express their opinions on the change to the holds policy may contact the president of the MCFLS board, Paul Ziehler, at MCFLS, 709 N. 8th St., Milwaukee, WI 53233.
